You mean there is a choice other than WordPress? Yes there is, but for any tutorials on this site I will be using WordPress. It has become the most popular blogging platform by far. And not just blogs but regular websites are using it as a content management system (CMS).
When I first started blogging (back in 2005) I was using blogger.com. With blogger you can get a free account (eg yourfreeblog.blogspot.com) or you can host it on your own URL. Blogger became so popular that Google came along and bought it. Then they did nothing. In that time WordPress was on its meteoric rise to the top with its constant improvements. WordPress used to be fiddly to set up. You had to unpack yourself in your hosting system and know some PHP (whatever that is). Nowadays because WordPress is so popular hosting companies provide push button installation, so you don’t have to know about coding.
So WordPress is now my blogging platform of choice. I have not tried out the others personally so I can’t tell you it is the “best blogging platform in the world”. Rather I am sticking to a platform that has many features and is regularly updated.
